Obaseki Sets To Declare Membership Of PDP After Abuja Horse-trading

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, has landed Benin, the state capital from Abuja where he met with top echelon of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for his joining the party ahead of September governorship poll.

BIGPEN understands Governor Obaseki had on Thursday met with the National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus as well as Governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Nyesom Wike (Rivers) and other top PDP leaders in Abuja.

The governor arrived Benin Friday evening after the meeting which was packaged to discuss how he can have a smooth entering into the PDP following his Monday resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), three days after, the party’s screening committee disqualified him from partaking in its primaries over purported discrepancy in his academic qualification.

Obaseki is expected to officially declare his membership of the PDP on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the PDP in Edo state, Mr. Tony Azegbemi said that Governor Obaseki has registered with the party and that his party card was ready.

“We are ready to welcome governor Obaseki and we are excited he is joining our party. At the moment, Obaseki is in Abuja, but his card is ready and he has already registered with our party in his ward.

“I just finished a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting now, where we affirmed that we are welcoming him with open arms to our party.”

On the PDP’s governorship ticket, Azegbemi disclosed that the governor would go through the party’s constitutional processes.
