BREAKING: Security Agents Foil Attempted Jailbreak In Sapele Prison

A combined team of men of the Nigeria Prison Service, Police and DSS were able to foil an attempted jailbreak by inmates at the Sapele Correctional Center, (Prison) in Sapele local government area, Delta State.
BIGPEN understands the inmates were protesting over poor feeding, lack of water and maltreatment by officials amidst challenges with COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.
According to Advocate, an online media, the inmate allegedly set the facility on fire in attempts to escape from the centre this Monday afternoon.
“The fire brigade van has just driven in and with several security men on the ground, the prisoners have so far refused to calm down.
“As at the time of filing this report, the Sapele Correctional Center is still on fire, while security men have surrounded the facility to check possible escape of the inmates in what has been described as a botched coup”, the report reads.
