Delta state has reported another case of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the number of infected persons in the state to 3 since the confirmed index case was made public last week Tuesday.

This comes a day after the second case was reported dead at Oghara Teaching Hospital, a designated isolation centre, shortly after his blood sample from Irrua Specialist Hospital in Benin city, returned positive.

Although the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the agency saddled with the responsible of updating Nigerians and managing the cases of the virus in the country was yet to confirmed the third case, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, on Saturday night disclosed that the third case was recorded in Asaba, the state capital and has since been quarantined in one of the state isolation centres.

Confirming the case in his verified twitter handle, Governor Okowa said that the patient is in good condition and responding to treatment by healthcare professionals deployed to battle the COVID-19 in the state.

The tweet reads: “We have just confirmed the third case of #COVID19 in Delta State. The patient, a male, was diagnosed today in Asaba, our state capital and is currently being managed by our healthcare professionals in one of our isolation centers.

“The patient is currently in a good state and responding to treatment; and we have already began to track all those that have had contact with him.
