Lockdown: Delta Deputy Speaker Rolls Out Palliatives For Ukwuani Communities

Deputy Speaker, Delta state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Christopher Ochor Ochor, has donated food items to the people of his constituency and orphanage homes in Ukwuani council area.

Ochor presented the items to the various leaders of the communities through two of his aides, Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, his Press Secretary and his Senior Special Assistance (Political), Deacon Moses Osemeke who both coordinated the smooth distribution of the items.

Items include, over 200 bags of rice, bags of beans, indomie noodles, tin tomatoes, tubers of yams amongst other necessities were shared.

Ochor said that he decided to give out the items to ensure that his people comply with government directive to stay at home within the period.

He said that the items were just to cushion the challenges faced by many Deltans as a result of the lock down imposed by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.

In distributing the items, he said that consideration was also made for other vulnerable people, such as those in the orphanages, and other special cases who cannot be able to afford much for the family.

He pointed out that the food items were given to the communities through the leaders of the area, who will identify those entitled to benefit from it.

The lawmaker urged the community leadership to ensure that the items gets to those that are identified to be in dire need and warned against using party dichotomy to share them.

so that the essence of the distribution would be justified as it is targeted at alleviating the sufferings posed by the lock down order.

Enebeli, stated that the distribution of the food items was a follow up to an earlier awareness campaign carried out by the deputy speaker on the coronavirus disease on Saturday March 28, 2020.

According to him, the deputy speaker, had earlier carried out a sensitization programme round the Local Government Area on the need to observe medical advice on how to stay safe against the spread of the disease.

Deacon Osemeke described the gesture as a way of putting smiles on the faces of the entire Ukwuani people. 

He appealed to leaders of communities present during the distribution to ensure that the less privileged individuals in their midst have a fair share of the items.

Some prominent Chiefs in Ukwuani local government area who received the items on behalf of the communities, including members of the Ukwuani legislative arm, applauded the Deputy Speaker and assured him that they will distribute the food items judiciously.
