Girl, 8 Escapes From Fulani Kidnappers, Found Unhurt By Vigilance Group In Delta

A local vigilance group in Issele-Uku, Delta state on Friday found a brave 8-year-old girl who was abducted Thursday night allegedly by Fulani herdsmen after they overpowered her father.

The victim, identified as Yvonne Shokare was seized by the captors after they inflicted various degrees of injury on the father who tried to resist them.

She was however rescued in the bush Friday morning following a search party conducted by the Issele-Uku vigilance group to locate her.

Before they found her, the brave girl had stealthily sneaked out unnoticed by the kidnappers who were fast asleep at their hiding place in the bush.

The vigilante members found her where she was hiding in the bush.

The girl’s father, a teacher at the Issele-Uku Technical College, Mr. Ese Shokare was stabbed in the head and other parts of his body before he was overpowered and her daughter taken away from their home along Ubulu-Okiti road.

He was later resuscitated at the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital in Issele-Uku where he was rushed and still being treated.

The President General of Issele-Uku Development Union, Mr. Ofordile Ugeh, who confirmed the report, expressed thanks to God for saving Issele-Uku from the ugly incident.

Mr. Ugeh who alerted people of the town of the incident and coordinated the rescue mission, however commended the vigilance group and affirmed that there was need for urgent security arrangement to forestall such occurrences in Issele-Uku and its environs.

The vigilante operatives, it was learnt are still combing the bush for the fleecing kidnappers.

Meanwhile the incident has since been reported at the Issele-Uku Divisional Police Headquarters for police to commence investigation into the crime.
