Gov. Obaseki Escapes Death In Convoy’s Auto Crash That Killed 7 Persons

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state on Saturday cheated death as his advance team got involved in a ghastly motor accident along the Benin-Auchi Highway, killing seven persons.
The governor’s car was still behind when a Toyota Hilux van in the advance team caused a multiple crash of cars in the convoy after its rammed into an Audi car, leading to the death of five adults and two children.
It was learnt that several other persons in the convoy were injured and hospitalised.
BIGPEN Online gathered that three of those who sustained various degree of injuries were rushed to the Central Hospital in Benin City where they are presently receiving treatment.
Governor Obaseki’s driver was among those who sustained fatal injury in the auto crash.
The advance team was said to be travelling from Benin to Ekpoma for the convocation ceremony of Ambrose Ali University when a Toyota Hilux van of the Governor advanced team was said to had a head- on -collision with a commercial Audi car.
The State Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, described it as “very unfortunate.”
Speaking to newsmen, an eyewitness who said the accident occurred at Ehor, the headquarters of Uhunmwode Local Government area added that a ‘good Samaritan’ rushed the survivors and the dead to the Central hospital in Benin.
It was, however, gathered that there were plans to evacuate the driver of the Hilux van to a private hospital for adequate medical care.
Meanwhile, a source at the Central Hospital, confirmed that the victims were receiving medication at the hospital.
The source, however, declined to give detail on the state of health of the victims still alive.
