Obasanjo Is The Most Misunderstood Nigerian Today, Says Activist Ofehe

Netherlands based Nigeria’s activist, Comrade Sunny Ofehe says former President Olusegun Obasanjo was often misunderstood over his controversial and famous letters which attack government of the day.

Ofehe who held a closed door meeting with the former Nigeria leader in Paris, France over the weekend, said that Chief Obasanjo desire a stronger nation hence his persistent criticism of the present day government.

Obasanjo is known for writing famous letters to his successors in office. In 2015, Obasanjo wrote several controversial letters highlighting disturbing state of the nation to then President Goodluck Jonathan.

He also slammed President Muhammadu Buhari in several occasions despite negative reactions which such letters often attract to his person.

But in a facebook post made on his page highlighting his meeting with the former president, Ofehe, an APC chieftain and former 2019 APC  governorship aspirant in Delta State, said that Obasanjo has great respect for President Muhammadu Buhari as a person and as a colleague former Head of State.

Ofehe wrote: “I was in Paris, France on the invitation of Nigerian former President, Rtd. Gen. (Chief) Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR. The Nigerian former Military Head of State and two times civilian President was the first to knelt me down and prayed for my political journey in 2017 in Dublin, Ireland.

According to him, “Chief Obasanjo is the most controversial and most misunderstood Nigerian today in my own opinion. A man who mean different thing to different people and a fierce critic of the Buhari administration

“I have been privileged to get very close to this octogenarian and know him personally. In Paris we discussed among several things, his reasons for criticising the current administration and what he thinks of the future of Nigerian democracy. It also surprised me that he has great respect for Buhari as a person and a former fellow colleague in uniform

“As a young Nigerian politician, I must admit that a lot of things I know of him now are contrary to the earlier opinion I had shared with other political commentators. However, I disagreed with him on many other issues even though he was compassionate enough to defend his position on those issues.

“In life you must be close to people and understand who they are and what shapes their opinion before you can freely criticise them.

“Hate him or love him, he has made his mark and today he globetrots around the world attending public fora where he shares his time and experience on issues that bothers on Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.
