Barring in any last minute change, Ovie Omo-Agege, a Delta State-born senator may emerged as the next deputy senate president against all odds, credible sources from the presidency have told BIGPEN ONLINE.

This is coming as the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee may have settled for South South geopolitical zone to produce the 9th deputy senate president.

Multiple sources revealed that Omo-Agege, a vibrant and committed APC senator who has indicated interest in the position is favoured by the villa and APC top echelon.

This is also coming as reports say the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee of the party had picked the outgoing Senate Leader, Sen. Ahmed Lawan, who is also the favorite of President Muhammadu Buhari for the Senate President of the 9th Senate.

A top member of the APC NWC who pleaded anonymity disclosed that all the offices of the ninth assembly has been zoned and a number of candidates within the zones who are already lobbying for the positions are known to the party.

Our source said besides the Deputy Senate President that has been zoned to the South-South and may likely go to Omo-Agege, the Majority Leader position has been zoned to the North-Central, while the Deputy Majority Leader slot will be zoned to the South-East.

The source hinted that the position of the Chief Whip has been zoned to the North-West while that of the Deputy Chief Whip has been zoned to either the South-West or South East.

Omo-Agege who is currently enmeshed in Delta APC purported annulment judgment saga, according to our dependable sources is long primed for the deputy senate president position following his credibility and unalloyed loyalty to the Buhari-led government.

The lawmaker who hails from Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area, and represents Delta central senatorial district will be a ranking senator in the ninth assembly having won a re-election on February 23, 2019 on the platform of the ruling APC.

It was learnt that there is intense lobbying by Pro-Buhari senators in the eight assembly and APC caucus for Omo-Agege candidacy of the DSP seat which has been zoned to South South.

“Among the senators from the zone, Omo-Agege is the favorite of the presidency and the APC NWC. You will be surprise the number of senators rooting for Omo-Agege even from the North”, our source added.

The presidential source revealed that the presidency is aware that Omo-Agege is under attack in Delta ostensibly because some elements who didn’t want him to succeed knew he has been primed for the deputy senate president position.

Our source however said that the presidency was yet to see any barrier against Omo-Agege, despite claims which has been repeatedly refuted that his reelection was annulled by an Asaba Federal High Court judgment which sacked the Jones Erue-led Delta State Executive committee of the APC.

BIGPEN ONLINE recalls that Omo-Agege had overtime said that the status of his reelection and that of all the candidates of the APC in Delta State for the 2019 general election remain valid and legitimate as they are not bound by the said judgement delivered by Justice Toyin Adegoke of Federal High Court, Asaba.

Omo-Agege had insisted that the Asaba Court has no appellate authority to override or set aside the valid, subsisting and final (being now unappealable) judgment of the Abuja Court under which the candidacy of all APC candidates under the Jones Erue-led executive committee are rooted.

He said that it is foolhardy for some elements to think that his application for joinder that was not allowed in the appeal court means the Court of Appeal, Benin City upheld the earlier judgement delivered by the Federal High Court, Asaba which APC and Jones Erue-led State Executive Committee has asked the appellate court to set aside in its entirety.
