Barely 24 hours after he declared June 12 Nigeria’s new Democracy Day and conferred the title of GCFR (Grand Commander of the Federal Republic), posthumously, on the presumed winner of the 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Abiola, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to gazette his orders.

As a follow up, President Buhari, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu on Thursday asked Malami to immediately take steps to publish the Orders in the Federal Gazette in order for the awards ceremony to hold on June 12.

“The President also directed that this should be done so that the awards slated for June 12, 2018 can go on as planned”, Shehu said.

Buhari had on Wednesday in a Executive Order personally signed by him, announced that Abiola’s running mate, Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibe, and the legendary human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, are to be honoured with the title Grand Commander Order of the Niger.
