The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State has promised workers on occasion of the celebration of May Day, renewal of life with new hopes, new dreams and new resolutions.

The party pledged that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led PDP administration would continue to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

This was contained in a statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza on Tuesday to mark Labour day celebration.

The statement said that state government was exploring possible avenues to ensure that the demands and desires of workers are given top priority always.

The statement read in part, “We recognize and identify with the universal celebration of Workers Day across the world and join the rest of the global community to celebrate the dignity of Labour which cannot be over-emphasised because of the valuable contributions of Labour to the socio-economic and political well being of society.

“Labour is the creative and intelligence arm of any administration and a functional Labour force thrives on the ingenious creations and productions of the Worker, who is tasked with delivering results that strengthen every administration and make the  world a worthwhile and profitable place to live in.

“The Delta state PDP is very proud and appreciative of our Labour force which has not only been a bank of mass creative energy that has engaged in an enviable and profitable partnership with the State government, over the years, but has since the advent of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, not only become the major focal point and driving machinery through which the brilliant objectives of the SMART agenda has been delivered but has indeed been working assiduously to actualize the prosperity for all Deltans mission and make the State a place of opportunities for all.

“The Delta State PDP extends our profound gratitude to the generality of the civil servants across board in the State for their co-operation with the Government of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by remaining peaceful and providing a conducive atmosphere for labour-government relationship to flourish to the overall benefit of all.

“We recall with admiration, the support that Labour in Delta State gave to the government in the thick of the tense economic situation occasioned by the recession that the nation experienced.

“So much so that the Workers in Delta State remained responsible and co-operated with the State government for the period that the recession lasted by creating an atmosphere of industrial harmony and peaceful partnership with the government to ensure that the far reaching policies of reversing the harsh economic realities were implemented. We are eternally grateful for the sense of responsibility displayed by the workers in the State in such a difficult period in our history.

“It is this cordial relationship that has made it possible for the PDP-led government of Delta State to achieve so much that even in the time of recession the prudent management of the scarce resources by the ingenuity of Governor Okowa made it possible to ensure that civil servants in the pay roll of the State government kept receiving their salaries regularly, workers were not owed, and those in the local government, the Governor showed concern by helping to see that local government workers that were owed salaries are now constantly paid, and are no longer being owed.
