Court Orders INEC To Withdraw Certificate Of Return Issued Delta Deputy Speaker

A High Court sitting in Kwale, Delta state have ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Friday Osanebi and issue same to Mr. Ozegbe as the rightful candidate of PDP and winner of the 2015 State Assembly election.

The court also ordered the police to investigate and prosecute the Deputy Speaker over alleged forgery and for reportedly lying on oath.

Delivering judgement in the case brought against Osanebi, Justice V.I. Ofesi stated that the issues raised and proved in the court against the lawmaker should spur security agencies to probe the source of his purported B.Sc Engineering certificate and NYSC discharge certificate.

“if I have my way, I will recommend that those documents be properly investigated”, Justice Ofesi stated.

According to Justice Ofesi, Osanebi who is representing Ndokwa east constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, provided false information concerning his educational qualification and certificates in INEC form CF001 of 2014 and 2011.

The court however ordered that Mr. Lawrence Ozegbe, was the rightful candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election as Osanebi was invalidly nominated and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued to Osanebi and issue same to Mr. Ozegbe as the rightful candidate of PDP and winner of the said election.

But Osanebi in a swift response signed by his Special Assistant, media and publicity, Mr. Obinne Agbanashi, assured his constituents and supporters not to express worry over today’s court judgement in Kwale.

“We admonish our teeming supporters to remain calm and relaxed, for there is no cause for alarm.

“The judgement has since been appealed and the Deputy Speaker is not distracted either,”

The Statement further said the Deputy Speaker is still very focused making frantic efforts for the empowerment and holistic transformation of his people.
