2019 Governorship: Anioma APC Leaders Seek Eligible Replacement For Okowa

on

Leaders and elders of Anioma Ethnic Nationality have reportedly settled for an All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for the 2019 governorship race as eligible alternative for incumbent Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa of Peoples Democratic Party.

Coming under the APC platform, the leaders hinged their decision to back only Anioma candidate on the reported ‘gentlemanly’ zoning agreement between the three senatorial district of the state which purportedly ‘zoned’ the governorship position in 1999, starting with Chief James Ibori of Delta Central.

They maintained that an Anioma APC candidate should be allow to complete the one term remaining for Delta North Senatorial District to round up their turn in the Delta governorship.

According to them, it is only equitable for the Senatorial District to complete its two gubernatorial terms since other Districts have done theirs through an APC Candidate and not through Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, an Anioma PDP incumbent governor who is also seeking a second term in office.

A source who didn’t want his name mentioned told BigPen Online on Saturday, “In line with the rotational agreement of the governorship of the state by the three senatorial districts, its most equitable that Anioma is supported to complete its remaining one term through an Anioma APC candidate”, the source who quoted Delta North APC Leaders added.

Meanwhile, a communiqué issued at the end of the closed door meeting hosted by Minister for State Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in his Onicha-Ugbo home, Aniocha North Local Government Area, urged all eligible governorship aspirants from Delta North Senatorial District to indicate interest so that their candidature can be marketed to the two other senatorial district in the State.

The communiqué which was signed by Delta North Caucus of the party, Engr. Chief Hyacinth Enuha, and read to newsmen by Mr. Iwedi Nwaha, said;

“From the inception of the Third Republic, the Central and Southern Senatorial Districts of Delta State have successfully completed two gubernatorial terms and as a result, the right of the Delta North Senatorial District to complete its second term, under the banner of the APC is only equitable.

“APC is solidly on ground in Delta North Senatorial District and has the capacity to win the 2019 gubernatorial election with the support of the other Senatorial Districts.

“From the inception of the Third Republic, the Central and Southern Senatorial Districts of Delta State have successfully completed two gubernatorial terms and as a result, the right of the Delta North Senatorial District to complete its second term, under the banner of the APC is only equitable”.

The Delta North leaders however threw their weight behind President Buhari administration and called on him to seek re-election in the 2019 general election.

“We, the Delta North APC hereby pass a unanimous vote of implicit confidence on the President and Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR and we invite him to vie again for a second term come 2019.”

The APC leaders also commended President Buhari and APC’s position on State Police and restructuring saying, that the position of APC as ruling party was unprecedented and should be commended by all Nigerians.

They however maintained that the PDP government that have been in power in Delta state since the inception of the current democratic process, has failed the State woefully.

The meeting held on Friday was attended by Minister for State Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu,  former Speaker, Rt Hon Victor Ochei, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, top state officials of the party from Delta North among others.
