Ijaw Youths Back Maj. Mowarin, Head Of Controversial Amnesty Education Deck

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Western Zone has thrown its weight behind Major Kesiena Mowarin (Rtd), Head of the controversial Presidential Amnesty Programme Education and Logistics Desk.

The youths said that they are backing Mowarin to continue his effort to sanitize the rot in the education desk of the amnesty office.

BigPen Online recalled that ex-militants had in the past two weeks protesting alleged fraud in the Education deck of the Amnesty Programme and had blamed the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs and chairman of Amnesty Programme, Brig Gen Paul Boroh for the development.

However, in a statement made available to newsmen in Warri on Wednesday, Information Officer of IYC Western Zone, Comrade Napoleon Kenekeredi, alleged that those who were not happy with efforts of Mowarin were the ones ‘sponsoring’ protests to discredit the effort to raid the Education deck of its rot.

They said that Maj Mowarin, who is allegedly being antagonized ostensibly because he is perceived to be a northerner and not an Ijaw man, actually hails from Oporoza town, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area and Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The statement read in part, “The Presidential amnesty programme was created to among other things train Ex-Niger Delta agitators in different areas of human endeavor.

“However, the IYC Western Zone note with sadness that whereas thousands of Ex-Niger Delta Agitators have not been trained; but a lot of those saddled with the management of the resources meant for the training of ex-agitators are smiling to the banks on the monthly basis at the expense of the Niger Delta youths.

“In most cases, educational training opportunities are given to people outside the Niger Delta region at the expense of Niger Deltann and in some cases as ghost slots without training anybody.

“It is in the light of the foregoing that the IYC Western Zone welcomes the efforts of Major Kesiena Mowarin (Rtd) to stop these corrupt and questionable activities in the education desk of the amnesty office.

“We also applaud the recent aptitude test for students to be sponsored into universities and call for more slots to be given to Niger Delta youths so as to address problems of militancy and create opportunities for youths to acquire university education.

“The IYC western zone is aware of those who are fighting to remove Major Kesiena Mowarin on the basis that he is from the northern part of the country.

“We wish to state clearly for the records that Major Kesiena Mowarin hails from Oporoza town, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area and Agbarho town in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State; hence he is a full blooded Niger Deltan and eminently qualified to be head of the Education and logistic desk of the presidential amnesty programme or any other position in the amnesty office.

“We call on President Buhari to put a stop to the diversion of Niger Delta resources to benefit of other parts of the country.
