Mobs Torch Police Station In Delta Over Police ‘Killing’

A Police Station in Onicha Olona community, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta state was on Tuesday razed by mobs over alleged police killing of an Okada rider, BigPen Online can report.
Report says a police officer at a check point along Issele Uku/Mkpitime road open fired on the motorcyclist after he failed to part with N100 ‘bribe’ demanded from him.
“The cyclist attempted to escape from the officer, hence the police officer released the trigger and allegedly wasted the life of the Okada rider”, a source said.
Another version however says the policeman hit the cyclist with the butt of his gun on his head which led to his death.
Irked by the development however, youths mobilized and burnt down the police station located in the community.
One of the youths who were protesting the alleged killing also sustained injury from gun shots fired by police officers and was rushed to nearby clinic in Issele Uku.
The mobs were said to have advanced and burnt down the shop of the wife of the police officer who allegedly fired the shot.
State Police spokesman, Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the incident, saying that investigation is still on to ascertain what led to the killing and the burning down of the community-built police station.
