Delta Police Command Allay Fears Of Boko Haram Invasion Of Asaba, Sapele

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed rumours making the round that over 2000 members of Boko Haram were already in Asaba, as part of the agenda to Islamize Nigeria.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zanna Ibrahim in a statement made available to BigPen Online on Friday allayed fear of residents who were made to believe that the insurgents group had overran Asaba,  the state capital and Sapele.

He described the rumour as “spurious and irresponsible”, saying that it was spread through WhatsApp.

“The Command considers such ill-conceived rumour-mongering as unacceptable and a calculated attempt to sow seeds of confusion, hate, chaos and anarchy in the state.

“It notes that the originator(s) and purveyors of the rumour cannot in any way correctly lay claim to being Christians as their message of hate is contrary to the message of the Bible as contained in Ephesians 4:29 which states:  “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen” (NIV).

The Command wishes to enjoin allresidents of Delta State to dismiss the rumour, as it is manifestly the handwork of mischief makers seeking to cause unnecessary suspicion, panic and crisis amongst the adherents of different faiths in the state, he said.

The Command equally advises those behind the wicked and inciting rumour to stop forthwith, or else be prepared to face the full wrath of the law as they will surely be caught”, he added.

While calling for the support of all Deltans towards a hitch-free and credible local government election billed to take place, Saturday, 6th January, 2018, Police Spokesman, Mr Andrew Aniamaka in a statement said that the Command further calls on anyone with credible information about any kind of security threat to make such available to the Police and other security agencies rather than resort to the unwholesome use of the social media to incite one group against the other.
