DTHA House C’ttee Frowns At Poor Execution Of Asaba Township Roads, Summons Contractor To Appear January

The Delta State House of Assembly House Committee on Works has summoned Deux Project Limited, the contracting firm handling the DLA Road, Federal College of Education (Technical) Road and the Rehabilitation/ Remodeling of Central Hospital Road project to appear before it January next year to explain why the projects are being executed poorly.

The committee which expressed disappointment over the execution of the projects by the contractor after receiving total sum of N3.1 Billion in payments, said it is obvious that the company lack the capacity to do road works as all the roads they have constructed in the Asaba axis have all failed within a period of one year, since 2014.

The Committee expressed it total disappointment for the obvious substandard-poor job execution, lack of performance and the abandonment of the Asaba Township Road projects by the management of Deux Projects Ltd.

Consequently, the committee led by Hon. Chief Evance Ochuko Ivwurie while making his final remarks, said that Deux Project Limited is now under investigation and directed the Contractor (Deux Projects Ltd) handling the DLA Road, Federal College of Education (Technical) Road and the Rehabilitation/ Remodeling of Central Hospital Road project together with his entire team/ stakeholders including the Ministry of Works to appear before the Delta State House of Assembly House Committee on Works on Wednesday, January 10th 2018 at 1.00pm prompt for the investigation proceedings.

Ivwurie in a statement by his media aide, Christopher Odamah, obtained by BigPen Online on Tuesday, also urged the management of Deux Project Limited to come alongside with 16 copies of every relevant documents that connects the company and the Ministry of Works, Chairman Ivwurie also ordered that the Chairman of Deux Project Limited must be personally present during the investigation proceedings.

Speaking at the inspection tour over the weekend, Hon. Ivwurie posited that Deux Project Limited has carried on their road projects business in Deltan State with impunity to the detriments of Deltans and the State Government by undermining the State contract policies by virtue of the substandard works done and their non-performance.

The lawmaker, also said that the quality of roads constructed by Deux which “we have all seen today is unacceptable to any reasonable government, Deltans and the House of Assembly. We cannot continue to tolerate this level of impunity and substandard delivery of roads network.

“Given the huge financial resources and priority the State Government has invested in road infrastructure in the Asaba metropolis to sustain the momentum of the government’s drive for accelerated development of Asaba capital territory, and the network of rural and urban roads across the State geared towards overall development of the State, it becomes so obvious after today’s inspection that Deux Projects Ltd is in the league of the recalcitrant and dissident contractors bent on sabotaging the efforts and commitments of the State Government to holistic infrastructural development of Delta State and the Committee must estoppel all such saboteurs”.

Hon. Ivwurie used this opportunity to emphasize the State Government commitment to the goal of achieving quality, standard and effective service delivery expeditiously for which reason the Governor of Delta State Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyichukwu Okowa has indeed funded the Ministry of Works more than adequately in spite of the biting economic recession.

He also assured that Speaker Sheriff Oborevwori and all the members of the Delta State House of Assembly are committed to ensuring that Deltans get full value for their money.

“I must thank Governor Okowa for choosing to be pro-development and pro-people despite the bitting economic recession and I must appreciate Speaker Oborevwori for his leadership and support for this committee”, Hon Ivwurie said.

“We decided to carry out this critical oversight function and to also look at what is going on and you can see for yourself that Deltans are totally disappointed with the performance of Deux Project Limited”

Hon Ivwurie was happy that there are Engineers, Lawyers, Accountants, Public Administrators, etc in the Committee and noted that, “The era of Contractors collecting money while abandoning projects is over”.
