Onisofie Owe, a female correspondent of Africa Independent Television (AIT) attached to Bayelsa State Government House, Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital, was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen yesterday night.
She was returning from church late yesterday night at ediep-epie Yenagoa when she was waylaid by the gunmen who disposed her of all her belongings.
She is reportedly in a very critical condition now at an undisclosed hospital in the state capital.
A source who preferred anonymity, said that she was returning from Shiloh program about 10:40 when they heard a cry for help by the victim around James Baridi in an area few metres from her house.
“I was driving home in company of a lawyer friend when we saw a blood soaked lady calling for help between Edepie and Tenacious road.
“When we got there, it was a fresh scene of a rather violent robbery. A girl I would later identity as an AIT staff was lying half-conscious in a pool of her blood.
“Witnesses said it was a lone gunman who had trailed her from Shiloh. Just in front of her house he showed the gun, took her phone, jewelry and cash.
“But the animal didn’t end there. He took steps backwards and shot her at close range even as she gave him no problems.
“We rushed her to the Tobis hospital and got home at about 11:pm.
According to the source, she was later rushed to Tobis Hospital at Akenfa but the hospital rejected treating her except a police report and certain amount of money is provided.
“We took her to another hospital at Igbogene, Himmei or thereabouts, the people there were humans and they commenced treatment instantly including  fresh pounds of blood”.
The good Samaritan who is a wife of a journalist in Bayelsa state, said that they thereafter contacted the secretary of Bayelsa State chapter of NUJ who later called her office to notify them of the incident.
