Update:

Sources said anti-riot police men and officers of Anti-Terrorism Squad attached to the Government House battered the students who were mobilised by the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSU).

The students were in the state from various institutions across the country over failure of the state bursary and scholarship board to pay their outstanding bursary.

National President of NADESSU, Samson Agolo, who led the protesters alleged that Okowa-led government had reneged in the payment of the stipend which was designed to augment student’s educational pursuit.

He said that the protest was stemmed for Okowa’s insensitivity to the plight of students and his non challant attitude toward the payment despite efforts to prod the state to make the payment to students of Delta origin.

“Governor Okowa has vehemently denied us that right. So we are saying until our bursary is given to us we shall continue to protest. Unlike the past government of Uduaghan, the Okowa government does not have human feelings for students.”
