The United Progressives Party’s Candidate, Osita Chidoka has given reasons to why he lost the Anambra governorship elections held on Saturday, saying he refused to heed to advice to pay voters for their votes.

He said that his decision not to pay was hinge on his party’s good run at the campaign, adding that they lost to superior financial power.

Nonetheless, he said he has accepted the outcome of the election as announced by INEC.

In a press statement released on Sunday, obtained by BigPen Online, Chidoka said, “Our campaign attracted the finest and the brightest of Anambra. The bold and the courageous were with us as we exerted our best in running the most robust issue-based and technology-driven campaign in the history of our dear state. We attempted to change the course of events and chart a new beginning for our state. We believed and we dared”.

“On Thursday, a large percentage of our supporters insisted that they will not vote unless we paid, I insisted we will not pay for votes. The decision not to pay ended our good run. We accept the voter’s decision…. We hold our heads high because we did not lose the poll due to paucity of ideas or lack of structure but to superior financial power.

The Governorship candidate however accepted the results of the election saying, “The true hallmark of democracy is the respect for the voice of the ballot as that of the majority”

In the Anambra Governorship election results, APGA candidate and Incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano won by a wide margin in all 21 local governments with Tony Nwoye of APC and Oseloka Obaze of PDP coming out a distant second and third respectively. Osita Chidoka came out fourth with 7,746 votes.
