Okowa Begs Ibori For ‘Forgiveness’ During Meeting By Jonathan’s Emissaries To Ex-Delta Governor

Facts have emerged that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state at the weekend begged former governor James Ibori to ‘forgive’ over report that he was angry about some actions he took recently as sitting Governor of the state.

A dependable source at the meeting who confided in BigPen Online said the appeal was made in the presence of River State Governor Nyesom Wike who led a delegation to Ibori in his country home Oghara, as part of moves to reconcile him with former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

The source said that Governor Okowa begged Ibori ‘profusely for forgiveness’, over the issue of commissionership slot and more recent, the reported failure to conferred with him before dissolving the state electoral body headed by his nominee, Moses Ogbe.

It could be recalled that the subtle cold war between Ibori and Okowa became glaring when Okowa’s Executive Assistant on Communication, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe who in a bid to correct impression, made statement about the dissolution of DSIEC saying Okowa cannot be tele-guided in his actions.

Okowa’s aide had said: “It will be wrong to insinuate that governor Okowa must consult ex-governors in all matters that enhances good governance before doing the needful; afterall the governor is not and will never be remote-controlled to do his job and to fulfil his campaign promises to the good people of Delta State, as captured in the “SMART” agenda blueprints.”

Sources told one of our correspondents; “In the close door meeting, Okowa also begged for forgiveness in all he has done to slight Ibori especially some of his policies”.

The source said that the meeting was mainly how to reconcile former President Goodluck Jonathan with Ibori who is said to be embittered about the role played by Jonathan in his arrest, prosecution and subsequent jail sentence in the UK.

The PDP had earlier sent emissaries led by Bayelsa State Governor Sariake Dickson to Ibori but it is still unclear whether the former governor was ready to reconcile and support fully the moves by the party to reclaim power in 2019.

“In the close door meeting, governor Wike also made a passionate appeal to Ibori to see reasons with the Jonathan’s emissaries and tow the line of reconciliation and that to err is human and forgiveness is divine. Infact in shortest possible time, a meeting between Ibori and Jonathan will be arranged.” the source said.
