We Used To Project Those Who’ll Win Council Polls From Asaba But Not Again – Okowa
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has said that in the past the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), used to endorse and write names of those who will win local government council election from Asaba, the state capital but all that has changed now.
The governor made this assertion while addressing an enlarged PDP stakeholders meeting to celebrate the victory of the Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee at the Supreme Court held on Friday at event center, Asaba.
Okowa who spoke against insinuation making the round that local government elections wouldn’t hold said, “we shall conduct the local government elections soon” and therefore urged those eying various positions to brace up to the task by doing their homework instead of relying on endorsement or winning through influence of political godfathers.
Hear him, “We shall conduct the local government elections soon and I want to appeal to all those aspiring to start doing their home work now, reach out to the people and contribute your quota to the party because there shall be no endorsement from Asaba or anywhere.”
According to the governor, only those who are popular and acceptable to the people will be supported, emphasizing that gone are those days where names will be written and substituted in Asaba and Abuja.
“Even in my local government, anyone contesting as my chairman must work hard because I will not sit here in Asaba and endorse or write someone’s name as in the past.
“You must show your popularity in the primaries and nobody is going to write or change names, so take note and do your home work very well.” Okowa said.
