Delta Assembly Aspirant Says Internal Party Democracy Panacea To Winning Elections

Published

on

A Delta State House of Assembly hopeful, Mr Chukwumah Phillip Ugbomah has said that only internal party democracy would make a political party succeed in any given elections.

Ugbomah, who spoke in a statement made available to newsmen, said political party must adhere to internal party democracy, which he said is the only sure way to succeed in the polls.

The aspirant who is seeking to represent the people of Ndokwa East Constituency in the state Assembly, however said that Nigeria state has alot to celebrate despite the challenges of insecurity posed to the country’s nascent democracy.

“Democracy Day has come and gone and looking back to how we have faired as a nation, we have every reason to give God the glory. Irrespective of the failings of this system, it is also worthy of note that we are close to celebrating two decades of unbroken democratic rule. This alone is an instance worth celebrating.

“Inspite of the age-long ethnic conflagration Nigeria is reputed for, we have remained one indivisible country. While we pray that the mindless killings and hostilities in the Middle belt, the insurgency in the North and menaces of marauding Fulani herdsmen and other forms of violent crimes, come to a halt, it is also proper that we give glory to God for the journey thus far”.

Mr Ugbomah said he was making strong case for political party internal democracy because it was the tripod upon which elections are won successfully.

“As we celebrate this Democracy Day, let me make a strong case for internal party democracy. This is the tripod upon which peaceful elections stand. A party that is divided against itself as a result of crisis arising from lack of internal democracy cannot succeed no matter how hard they try. Every party man must be given an opportunity to test their acceptance during Congresses and primaries. This is the only way our not too nascent democracy can be strengthened”.

While wishing Nigerians a happy Democracy Day, he called for a sober reflection on how the history of Nigerian can be re-writing through democratic practices which will reflect the people first.

“I state strongly that in arriving at our choices, we must place the collective good of our people first before our individual sentiment. By so doing, we will create stronger institutions instead of stronger individuals. This should be the launch pad for the development that we crave”.
