The Warri Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has urged the Delta State Government to uphold the legacies of former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other dignitaries extend their condolences to his widow.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its Congress on Friday, October 23, 2026, the Warri Chapel mourned Uduaghan, who died on Monday, October 19, 2026, and listed his administration’s impactful programs.

The Congress recalled Uduaghan’s contributions to journalists’ welfare, including sponsorship of members for professional training in the United Kingdom and provision of working tools for the Chapel.

It also highlighted his free maternal and child healthcare programme which led to the establishment of the Mother and Child Care Centre at the Central Hospital, Warri, free bus rides for pupils and students, subsidised transportation, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) initiative and the Edu-Marshall programme which tackled out-of-school children.

The journalists said the programmes touched lives at the grassroots and urged government to sustain and strengthen them.

“The Congress called on the Delta State Government and other relevant stakeholders to sustain and, where necessary, strengthen these initiatives in the interest of the people,” the communiqué signed by Elo Edremoda, Success Okuchemiya and Samuel Ogude stated.

Meanwhile, condolence visits have continued to pour in for the Uduaghan family.

Governor Oborevwori, his predecessor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and other political leaders have paid condolence visits to the family to commiserate with the widow, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan, and children.

Okowa, who visited personally, said Uduaghan’s loss is deeply felt, noting that they take comfort in the life he lived and his contributions to Delta State.

Governor Oborevwori had earlier described Uduaghan as a statesman whose eight years in office left enduring legacies in healthcare, education and human capital development.

The NUJ said it prays to God to grant the family and the people of Delta fortitude to bear the loss and peaceful repose to the former governor.
