Look Beyond Page Views To Build Profitable Media – DOPF Tells Online Publishers

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has urged online publishers to look beyond traffic and adopt innovative strategies to build sustainable, profitable and credible digital media businesses.
The call was made at DOPF’s 2026 Annual Conference Business Workshop held in Asaba on Tuesday, October 21, 2026, themed “Beyond Traffic: Building Sustainable and Profitable Digital Media Businesses.”
In his welcome address, DOPF Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, said online publishers must build businesses that are not only influential but financially sustainable.
He noted that while traffic is important, it is insufficient to guarantee survival, urging publishers to explore new revenue opportunities, embrace innovation, strengthen brands and develop professional skills without compromising ethics.
In his goodwill message, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mrs. Stella Marculay, commended DOPF for promoting professional journalism and public accountability.
Aniagwu described the theme as timely, noting that the evolving digital media landscape requires publishers to move beyond page views to building credible and financially viable organisations.
He said media success should be measured by quality journalism, public trust, ethical standards and ability to create sustainable economic value.
He highlighted the media’s role in strengthening democratic governance, transparency and public participation, reaffirming the state government’s recognition of the media as a vital partner in communicating policies under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.
He urged publishers to combat misinformation and sensationalism by prioritising accuracy, fairness and editorial independence, and to explore strategic partnerships, digital subscriptions, responsible advertising and multimedia storytelling to strengthen financial resilience.
In his vote of thanks, DOPF Secretary, Mr. Shedrack Ogaga Onitsha, thanked guests and participants and acknowledged the state’s mourning period following the death of former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, whose contributions he said would be remembered.
The workshop, which is Day 1 of the 2-day 6th Annual Lecture Series, featured Prof. Presley Obukoadata and Prof. Majority Oji as facilitators.
