Stephen Ebihor, popularly known as Papi Urhobo, a Nigerian musician recognised for his vocal contribution to Timaya’s hit song Ogologomma, has died after a period of illness.

Ebihor reportedly died on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. His death was announced by Urhobo Worldwide, a platform that promotes Urhobo culture, heritage and unity.

Papi Urhobo gained prominence among music lovers through his contribution to Ogologomma, a track from Timaya’s 2007 debut album, True Story. His distinctive vocal performance on the song became one of the works for which he was widely remembered.

Before his death, Ebihor had publicly spoken about his health challenges. In July, he disclosed that he had suffered an accident that left him with a cracked bone and affected his ability to walk.

He subsequently appealed to members of the public for financial assistance to undergo surgery. He later thanked those who supported him during his medical challenges.

The organisation also appealed to the public to respect the privacy of his family and refrain from spreading unverified information concerning his death and burial arrangements.

It urged friends, colleagues and fans to keep his wife and children in their prayers, adding that the family would communicate details of his burial at the appropriate time.

The specific medical cause of his death has not been officially disclosed.

Papi Urhobo’s death is a loss to the Urhobo entertainment community and Nigerian music industry, where he will be remembered for his distinctive voice and contribution to Ogologomma.
