Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a woman who was ambushed and abducted by armed men at the entrance of her residence along Eko Amukpe Road in Sapele.

The victim was attempting to drive into her compound when some armed men bracketed her and took her away.

She was rescued at about 19:45pm on 2nd September 2026 following a distress report to the Sapele Division.

Confirming the development in a statement on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said that the suspects fired several shots into the air before taking her into a nearby bush.

Edafe said, “Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Sapele Division, immediately mobilised patrol and surveillance teams to the scene, where expended AK-47 ammunition shells were recovered.

“Operatives, supported by local vigilantes, thereafter commenced an intensive search of the surrounding bushes.

“The search was sustained throughout the night into the morning of 3rd September 2026, mounting pressure on the kidnappers and forcing them to abandon the victim and flee.

“The woman was subsequently located and rescued unharmed and has since been reunited with her family. The Command has intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible intelligence, on 3rd September 2026, raided black spots within Abraka following an ongoing investigation into an attempted murder earlier reported in the area.

The operation, according to the statement by Edafe, led to the arrest of eight suspects namely: Evans Adamda, Mamatime Micheal, Wale Morakinya, Anabono, Godspower, Theophilus Philip, Robinson Oghenewiro and Inoni Ejiroghene.

He said that during the operation, three locally made pistols, Tramadol and other suspected illicit drugs were recovered.

He reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led operations and decisive action against kidnappers, cultists and other criminal elements across the State.

The CP assured residents that the Command will continue to identify criminal hideouts, apprehend offenders and recover illicit weapons, while urging members of the public to support the Police with timely and credible information.
