Wike to Atiku And Obi: My Mission Is To Beat You Thoroughly And Make You Sick

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he has no intention of easing pressure on opposition figures Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, declaring that his political mission is to keep them “unwell” ahead of 2027.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike said Nigeria currently has no credible opposition, blaming internal crisis for weakening the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he described as the party that should naturally lead the opposition.

“I have told you we have no opposition. What you have is people who are just trying to see whether they can be relevant. Who is the opposition leader? Ordinarily, it would have been PDP, but because of the crisis we have had, you can’t see a formidable party,” he said.

The FCT Minister, a chieftain of the PDP who is campaigning for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, said his focus is to frustrate the opposition.

“Whatever they feel is not my business. I don’t want them to feel well. My business is to make them not feel well all day, because they will be having high blood pressure. I guess that is my job, to make them have high blood pressure,” Wike stated.

“When you are having a contest with somebody, your business is not to make him feel well. Your business is to make sure that you beat him thoroughly, and he will be sick all through. And that is what we are doing to them.”

Wike added that the political fortunes of both Atiku and Obi do not concern him.

“How Atiku feels, how Obi feels, does not give me a headache. In fact, if I knew how they feel now, I would add more crises for them,” he said.

The Minister has in recent weeks intensified criticism of the two former presidential candidates. On Thursday, he dismissed Atiku’s promise to restore petrol subsidy if elected in 2027, describing the former Vice President as “confused” and accusing him of saying anything to win power.

In October 2025, Wike also mocked Obi, branding the former Anambra governor a “social media presidential candidate” and questioning the viability of his bid under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
