FCT Police Arrest 40 Over Traffic Robbery, Kidnapping, Armed Robbery

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 40 suspects in separate operations over alleged traffic robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping and traffic offences across Abuja.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Abuja.
Sanusi said the arrests followed a review of crime patterns in the territory aimed at tackling armed robbery, vehicle theft and other criminal activities.
He said 10 suspects were arrested for allegedly disguising themselves as hawkers to rob motorists and commuters around congested roads and traffic stops.
Another 20 suspects were arrested for traffic offences, particularly driving against traffic, popularly known as “one-way.” The suspects were subsequently charged to court.
The commissioner also disclosed the arrest of two suspects linked to armed robbery incidents in Nyanya and Kubwa. The suspects, identified as 32-year-old Ismail Tasiu and 35-year-old Adamu Aliyu, were arrested at a hotel in Jabi.
Police recovered five motorcycles, three knives, a licence plate and a face cap bearing the inscription “Kaduna State Vigilante Service” from them.
Sanusi further said two suspects, Godwin Afekhide and Aaron Ogbu, were arrested over the kidnapping of three residents of Nyanya. The victims were rescued unharmed from New-Nyanya, Nasarawa State, and reunited with their families.
Six other suspects were also arrested over alleged night-time housebreaking, theft and attacks on residents.
The CP assured residents that the command would continue operations to dismantle criminal networks and urged the public to provide credible information on suspicious activities.
