Delta Announces Monday, January 5, as School Resumption Date

Delta State Government has announced that all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state will resume on Monday, January 5, 2026 for the second term academic activities.

A statement jointly signed by the State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Chief (Mrs.) Rose Ezewu JP, and the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu indicated that boarders would resume on Sunday, January 4 .

The statement reiterated that teaching and learning activities would commence on Monday, January 5 immediately after the classrooms have been cleaned by the learners under the supervision of their teachers.

According to Ezewu and Ashibogwu , parents and guardians are advised to ensure that their children and wards are prepared for the school resumption.

The statement enjoined teachers to be at their duty post as early as possible on Monday, January 5 for the school resumption, stressing that they should redouble their commitment to their statutory responsibility.

It clarified that the two commissioners would lead staff of Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to monitor the compliance across the state, warning that the state government would not condone absenteeism by any teacher without proper permission from their school heads.

The Secondary and Primary Education Commissioners congratulated all stakeholders in the education system including the school heads/Principals and teachers as well as the learners in primary and secondary schools for being among several individuals that have made it to the year 2026.

They expressed optimism that the year 2026 would be a better year for the education sector in the state.

It, however, appreciated the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for for his ceaseless support to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education with a view to improving the education system in the state.
