Delta Council Boss Urges Teachers to be Committed, Dedicated to their Duties

The Isoko South Local Government Area chairman of Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has tasked teachers to be committed and dedicated to duties and ensure effective knowledge transfer to foster academic excellence among their young learners.

Warri made the call on Monday during an enlarged meeting with primary schools headmasters and mistresses from across the Isoko South at his office in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Council.

He stated that teachers’ dedication and passion for their work would positively impact their pupils’ lives and encourage them to strive for excellence and find fulfillment in their students’ success.

The chairman advised them against undesirable behaviors, such as tardiness, absenteeism, nonchalance, and neglect of government property in their respective schools, among other issues even as he warned against such act which would no longer be tolerated by the current administration, given the substantial investment in the education sector.

“As heads of your various schools, no headmaster or mistress is exempt from accountability; we will take necessary actions within our capacity. If you are uncomfortable with the responsibilities, you may consider resigning from the school system. We cannot continue to pay individuals who fail to deliver the services for which they have been remunerated.

“You are aware of those teachers who are not coming to work. It will no longer happen. If you fail to mention them, I’ll hold you (HM) accountable. We collectively comprise the government, with distinct roles to play at various levels; communication is a two-way process. Notably, Isoko South Local Education Authority salaries rank among the highest in Delta State, yet some schools within the region still face a shortage of teachers.

“You are aware of those teachers who are not reporting to work. This will no longer be tolerated. If you fail to identify them, I will hold you, the headmasters, accountable. If you are shielding your staff from attending school, there will be consequences. As teachers, we have a major role to play in the life of the learners. As a matter of fact, primary school is the foundation of our young learners. See those children as yours; please guide them.” Warri said.

In their separate remarks, the headmaster of Isoko Central School, (ICS), Oleh, who also serves as head of all headmasters and mistresses in Isoko South, Okoro B. E. E., and his counterpart, Mrs. Okoro, pledged the teachers’ commitment to work, appealing for additional encouragement to enable them to deliver, particularly in addressing the vandalism of most public schools’ properties.

Okoro however noted that ICS as a case study, is one of the largest schools, but vandals take advantage and destroy most of those properties, stating that if the menace can be checked, they will be very pleased.

They assured that the Headmasters and Head Mistresses in Isoko South will not fail in their duties and appealed for an even distribution of teachers across the local government, which will be appreciated, lamenting that the Urban towns have more staff, unlike some of those in the core rural villages.

Meanwhile, Warri, it was reliably gathered, has concluded plans to convene a subsequent meeting with all president generals to address the destruction of government properties as he warned that ‘I will not prioritize personal gain over the well-being of our people; we will address this issue.”.
