The Tsekelewu (Polobubo) Bloc communities in Warri North local government area of Delta State, have issued a 14-day ultimatum to Chevron Nigeria Limited, citing persistent marginalization and lack of transparency in the oil company’s operations within the Opuekeba and Olero fields

.

In a formal protest letter addressed to Chevron’s General Manager, Welfare Executives Tsekelewu (Polobubo) Bloc Communities, expressed frustration over years of peaceful cooperation that, they say, have been met with exclusion from employment opportunities, supply contracts, and community engagement initiatives.

The communities, in the letter said that despite their readiness to collaborate, local contractors—competent and duly registered—continue to be sidelined in favour of third-party intermediaries, fueling mistrust and unrest among the youths.

“We, the Welfare Executives and representatives of Tsekelewu (Polobubo) Bloc communities (Warri North LGA), formally protest the continued marginalization of our people in Chevron’s operations in the Opuekeba and Olero fields.

“Despite our peaceful cooperation over the years, our communities have been consistently excluded from employment, supply contracts, and general engagement. Local contractors, though competent and registered, are overlooked in favor of third-party intermediaries. This lack of transparency has bred mistrust and growing unrest among our youths”.

The communities have demanded immediate action, including: “Respect for their community structures and traditional leadership in all dealings with Chevron, Fair and transparent consideration of local contractors in all contract awards, A prompt, joint stakeholder meeting involving Chevron, government agencies, and community representatives to address these issues”.

The community leaders emphasized that failure to respond within the stipulated 14 days will compel them to pursue lawful, peaceful actions to press their demands.

“This is a call for justice and fairness,” said Paul Toruwei, President of the Tsekelewu (Polobubo) Bloc Communities.

“We have remained peaceful and cooperative. It is time Chevron recognizes our rights and includes us genuinely in the wealth generated from our land.”
