High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has been honoured as Private Security Personnel of the Year award at the New Telegraph Awards/Dinner Night 2024, for his pivotal role in securing Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Tompolo’s efforts have not only curbed oil theft and pipeline vandalism but also significantly increased production, strengthening Nigeria’s economic stability.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo’s media consultant, expressed gratitude for the honor, emphasizing the importance of his principal’s contributions. “First and foremost, I want to thank God Almighty for giving Tompolo the strength and vision to serve the nation selflessly. We also appreciate New Telegraph for recognizing his unwavering dedication with this well-deserved award,” he said.

Dr. Bebenimibo highlighted that Tompolo’s absence at the ceremony was a testament to his dedication, as he remained on the field overseeing security operations. He recalled that when Tompolo was entrusted with safeguarding Nigeria’s critical oil infrastructure in 2022, the country’s daily oil production had dropped to 800,000–900,000 barrels per day due to rampant theft and sabotage. Under his leadership, production has now surged to nearly 2 million barrels per day, a significant turnaround that underscores his effectiveness.

This increase in oil output directly benefits Nigeria’s economy by generating more revenue for national infrastructure, education, and healthcare. However, Dr. Bebenimibo stressed that Tompolo’s mission is far from complete. “His ultimate goal is to push production beyond 2 million barrels per day. He is driven not by personal gain but by a deep sense of duty to the nation,” he stated.

A key factor in Tompolo’s success has been his engagement with grassroots communities in the Niger Delta, fostering trust and cooperation among local stakeholders. By involving community leaders and youths in security efforts, he has not only strengthened infrastructure protection but also promoted stability in a historically volatile region.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, a fellow award recipient, commended Tompolo’s contributions to national security. “Tompolo has worked tirelessly to protect Nigeria’s oil wealth and has played a crucial role in combating crimes that threaten our economy. His success in reducing oil theft and boosting production is commendable,” Keyamo noted.

The minister also lauded Tompolo’s ability to unite diverse communities toward a common goal. “He didn’t just fight crime—he built trust, and that’s why he’s been successful. He’s not just a colleague; he’s a friend and brother, and together, we are committed to ensuring peace and development in the Niger Delta.”

The recognition serves as a testament to Tompolo’s transformative impact on Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. From increasing national revenue to fostering peace in oil-producing communities, his efforts have left a lasting mark on the country’s economic landscape.

As Nigeria continues its pursuit of energy security and economic growth, Tompolo’s dedication exemplifies how strategic leadership and community-driven initiatives can drive national progress.
