The family of Godwin Ajanemiwa is demanding justice for his alleged unlawful killing by security personnel at Nigitrade Company Yard in Warri, Delta State, on December 12, 2024.

The deceased is a nephew of ex-international and chairman of professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Taskforce, Prince Harrison Jalla.

According to the family’s legal team, Ajanemiwa was attacked by security guards who suspected him of attempting to steal.

He was badly injured with a machete, sustaining severe cuts to his wrist and other parts of his body.

Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Ajanemiwa died shortly after arrival.

Mr. Shedrach Edede, Ajanemiwa’s elder brother, told his lawyers that he was contacted by a man named Olaye Izuagie around 9:00 p.m. on the day of the incident. Izuagie, later informed him that his brother had been badly injured by the security guards at the yard and needed immediate medical attention.

Upon arriving at the scene, Edede was told that his brother had been attacked with a machete, sustaining severe injuries, including cuts to his wrist and other parts of his body.

The family’s legal representatives, Magnus Egin Atie & Co., in a petition addressed to the Area Commander of Delta South, demanded those responsible for the incident be held accountable, describing the case as an extrajudicial killing.

The family claimed that the security personnel’s actions were excessive and deliberate, raising concerns about the legality of their actions.

The family’s legal representatives have requested a full and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ajanemiwa’s death.

They argue that even if Ajanemiwa was attempting to steal, the security personnel had no right to use lethal force. The family is demanding swift action and accountability, describing the incident as an extrajudicial killing.
