Ofehe Reassures Investors, Diaspora Community Amid Worrisome Killing Incidents In Delta

Delta State still remain a safe destination for both foreign and local investments, Dr. Sunny Ofehe, the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on External Relations and Diaspora Affairs, has said.

Ofehe stated this as part of efforts to reassure investors and restore their confidence in the state in the wake of the tragic incident involving the killing of soldiers in the State.

Recalls that five senior military officers and 12 soldiers were ambushed and killed by armed irate youths during a peace-keeping mission in Okuama community, Ughelli South local government area.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports that there has been heighten tension, fear and uncertainty in some part of the state as a result of the unfortunate incident that followed the military operation in the communities.

Ofehe, in a post made on his social media handle, said that since the dastardly and unfortunate incident, he has been inundated with calls and emails messages from prospective investors regarding the security situation and the suitability of the state for investment.

“Since the dastardly and unfortunate incident in Okuama Community in Delta State that led to the death of 17 soldiers of the Nigerian Army, I have been inundated with calls and emails messages from prospective foreign investors and Nigerians in the Diaspora regarding the security situation and the suitability of the state for investment”.

He explained Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to addressing the crisis. He stated that the governor had shown capacity in handling the matter, particularly his recent meeting with the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, where he admonished them not to harbour the suspects involved in the heinous crime.

“As the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on External Relations and Diaspora Affairs, I wish to unequivocally state that Delta State remains a safe haven for both foreign and local investments.

“In the wake of this tragic incident, I want to reassure all foreign investors and our Diaspora Community that Delta State is safe for business and therefore, restore their confidence in our great State.

“My boss, His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has always been committed to ensuring peace and stability in Delta State. He is already addressing this crisis at both National, State and local level”, he said.

According to him, the Governor recognizes the importance and the critical role traditional rulers play in resolving issues at the community level and has urged them to ensure that the perpetrators didn’t find refuge in their domain.

He said that the Governor took the strategic step to provide update for the monarchs on the security situation and reassuring them of the safety of their people because he knew they were closer to the people.

Ofehe maintained that Oborevwori took the step after he met with President Bola Tinubu and other security chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff and the National Security Adviser, as well as his visit to a military command in Bomadi, which controlled the area the Incident took place, to address the matter.

While condemning the act of killing military personnel on active duty, he said that the governor had earlier condemned the act as barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable, affirming that those responsible will face the full wrath of the law.

Specifically, the Executive Assistant said that Governor Oborevwori had reiterated the government’s commitment to not allow troublemakers to discourage investors from investing in the state, emphasizing that sustainable peace is essential for attracting investment.

According to him, the governor is ensuring high level security beep up and surveillance for the safety of residents and indigenes of the state as well as investments in the state.

He, however commended the governor for all the peace initiative and moves to track the perpetrators, particularly moves to persuade military authority to relax the siege on Okuama community to avert humanitarian crisis.

Ofehe assured prospective investors and the Diaspora community that Governor Oborevwori is actively handling the crisis and will ensure the timely arrest of the perpetrators, and restoration of normalcy to the land and riverine communities.
