Workers Reopen Shoprite In Warri After Its Was Shut Over Unpaid Yearly Bonus

Retail supermarket, Shoprite has been reopened for business in Warri, commercial hub of Delta State, after its was shut early hours of Saturday by workers in protest of unpaid yearly bonuses.

Workers had shut down the shopping mall situated on the Effurun roundabout in protesting of meager one thousand naira being offered to them by the management as their yearly bonus for 2022.
Some customers who were at the mall at the wee hours of Saturday were disappointed as workers had locked the entrance of the mall protecting their unpaid bonuses which ought to be paid in full but was reportedly reduced to N1,000.
A staff of the outlet who preferred anonymity told newsmen that the row with the management was because only a thousand naira was paid as a bonus for the past year which was against their contractual agreement.
However, as of the time of filling this story for publication, the mall has been reopened as confirmed by a staff who said that the vex issue which led to the shutting down of the outfit has been resolved.
Some customers who had gone early to do their shopping and were left stranded as they were caught up by the workers’ protest, expressed disappointment that a mega rail supermarket like Shoprite could only been paying N1,000 as bonus to staff.
Others who were frustrated and infuriated by the development wondered how a business entity like Shoprite will be paying their staff a thousand naira as a yearly bonus.
“This is a big shame for Shoprite Warri. The management, don’t they have shame?”, asked one of the customers who was bittered by the development.
The management could not be reach for comment on the development.
