Newly Installed Okere-Urhobo Monarch Sues For Ethnic Harmony In Delta

The newly crowned traditional ruler, (Orosuen) of Okere Urhobo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Prof Paul Okumagba, Idama II, has appealed for harmony among ethnic nationalities in Delta State.
The monarch spoke when members of the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union Journalists (NUJ) visited his palace in Warri, Delta state to share the joy of his recent enthronement
Speaking, he assured his subjects and ethnic neighbours of reign of peace and progress in Warri and its environs.
Expressing concern about mutual distrust and ethnic disharmony in the state, the Orosuen gave a brief narrative of how growing up in the oil city of Warri was like.
“I am a Warri thoroughbred. I was raised and grew under a robust brotherhood with all neighbors, never by any means divided by tribe or language.
“The common language was the peculiar Warri pidgin English for which the oil city was widely known. Nido Nite and other popular clubs as well as basic schools scattered about the town were the melting points where we streghtened the brotherhood.
“I can’t explain where we got it so wrong and deviated to violence in mutual distrust and ethnic disharmony. But my coming marks a new dawn. I can assure you peace will reign not only in my kingdom, but with my neighbors, especially closest Itsekiri and Ijaw”.
Responding to an earlier appeal by the Warri Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ for a parcel of land to erect a permanent secretariat of the union in his domain, the monarch said, “You will hear from me in the shortest possible time, even before Christmas”.
The NUJ delegation, which was led by Vanguard’s Egufe Yafugborhi, Vice Chairman, also included Joe Ogbodu (Secretary), Francis Sadhere, (Auditor), Edeki Igafe (Financial Secretary), Dele Fasan of Galaxy Television, Odeya Ogbetuo of The Mandate as well as Matthew Omonigho of Daily Post.
