Delta Police Confirm Four Killed In Asaba Hausa Quarters Attack, Arrests Two Suspects

The Delta Police Command has confirmed the reported attack on Hausa quarters in Asaba, Delta State, saying fours persons were killed by the invaders.

State Police Commissioner, Mr. Ibrahim Zanna who confirmed the incident which happened on Friday, September 15th, 2017, at about 10:45pm, said two suspects have been arrested so far over the incident which had caused tension of possible reprisal in the metropolis.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, who said the arrest was made at the early hours of Saturday, named the two suspects as, Abraham Ndudi ‘m’, 24 years old from Kwale, Delta State and Okereke Ifeanyi ‘m’, 21 yrs from Ogbaru in Anambra State.

He said that the police are already interrogating the suspects to know their involvement in the dastardly shooting and killing of four persons at Abraka market, Asaba,

“The suspects, who were arrested from their hiding place on the ceiling of a major hotel in Abraka, Asaba, where they had fled into in their dire bid to escape arrest, are already helping the police in their investigation.

He said that efforts are on top gear to arrest the third suspect, whose real name is yet unknown but simply identified as “Last Burial”.

The statement recall that on Friday, 15th September, 2017, at about 10.45pm, three armed men, all in black outfits, suspected to be members of a cult group or Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) fired indiscriminately into Abraka market, Asaba, predominantly inhabited by non-indigenes of the state and in the process killed four persons.

It named the deceased as Usman Abdullahi ‘m’, aged 45yrs, Ali Sidi ‘m’, aged 70yrs, Ibrahim Zubairu’m’ aged 30yrs and Hauwa (surname unknown), aged 22yrs, adding that five persons who were injured are currently recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba

While promising that investigation has commenced on the incident with a view to finding out the motive behind the shooting and the possible involvement of other conspirators in the unwarranted shooting and wounding of innocent persons, the CP. Zanna M. Ibrahim, enjoins the non indigenes and indigenes alike not to panic or even contemplate any reprisal action as the law will surely take its course.

“The CP commiserates with the relations and friends of both the deceased and injured and assures them, as well as other citizens and residents of the state, that everything humanly possible is being done by the police and other security agencies towards ensuring their utmost safety at all times.

Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner has met with leadership of non-indigenes and other key actors in the state over the unfortunate incident at the Police Officers Mess, Okwe, Asaba.
