Despite Political Thugs Attacks, Delta PDP Says Ward Congresses Successful

Despite reports of bloody attacks by political thugs during its just concluded ward congresses, the Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has congratulated its members “over the peaceful, hitch-free and collectively accepted ward congresses in the State” last weekend.

Reports had it that no fewer than ten persons were wounded with various dangerous objects and hospitalized in Isoko at the weekend during the congress. It was learnt that supporters loyal to two appointees of the state government reportedly ignited the crisis in Erowha/Umeh Ward 08, leaving ten persons including an ex-councillor simply identified as Saturday Eneriakpoze, one Oyibo Emmanue and others hospitalised’, according to a report in BIGPEN.

But the PDP on Monday expressed satisfaction over the large turnout of party faithful across the State on Saturday, March 7, 2020, for the very successful exercise.

State Publicity Secretary of the party, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, in a statement however charged PDP members to exhibit a higher level of party unity and purpose in the forthcoming Local Government Congresses.

The statement urged the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC in the State to emulate the PDP and embrace peaceful conduct in its electoral processes.

Dr. Osuoza said: “The Delta State PDP is very delighted with the peaceful, organized and well coordinated conduct of our ward congresses and the large turnout which heralded the exercise. This is a clear indication of our unrivaled popularity and acceptance by Deltans and it has once again consolidated our avowed philosophy that power belongs to the people, which we have continued to preach and uphold in the State.

“We heartily congratulate and commend our congress committees, stakeholders and members for their large turnout across the State and applaud them for living up to expectations.

“While charging our members and party faithful to be more peaceful, committed and organized with the same unity and sense of purpose in the forthcoming Local Government Congresses, urge the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, to emulate our well organized Congresses and embrace peace, whenever they decided to stop fighting amongst themselves and conduct their own congresses”.
