‘Go And Answer Your Charges’ – Court Of Appeal To Suspended CJN, Onnoghen

Published

on

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has committed to the dust bin an application for stay of proceedings filed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, against the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The suit was dismissed on Wednesday.

Onnoghen had filed the application before the court, challenging the jurisdiction of the CCT to try him.

But the Appeal Court said the charges filed against Onnoghen are criminal in nature and the proceedings before the CCT cannot be stopped.

BigPen Online recalls that on Monday, the CCT adjourned hearing in the case of false assets declaration filed against Onnoghen, indefinitely.

Danladi Umar, the CCT Chairman who announced the adjournment said it was in obedience to the interim order granted by the Court of Appeal, Abuja.
