The Grant Ecosystem in Nigeria has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene in the payment of outstanding grants allegedly sourced from international donors over 11 years ago.

In an open appeal addressed to the President and signed by Amb. Prof. Greg Stephens on behalf of the Ecosystem, the body called for a thorough investigation into the status of the grants, verification of eligible beneficiaries, and a clear roadmap for payment in line with government procedures.

According to the group, the prolonged delay in releasing the grants has caused severe financial hardship, anxiety among subscribers and their families, rivalry among stakeholders, and needless deaths.

“The prolonged uncertainty surrounding the payments has caused considerable anxiety, financial hardship and tension among affected subscribers,” the statement read.

The Ecosystem urged President Tinubu to direct relevant authorities to issue an official update on the status of the grants, outline steps being taken to resolve the issue, and announce a realistic timeline for payment.

It explained that the Grant Ecosystem comprises various groups and individuals including Grant Fighters, pressure groups, grant handlers, coordinators, NGOs, cooperative heads and other participants spread across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and communities nationwide.

The group said it remains committed to constructive engagement with the Tinubu administration and requested a meeting with appropriate government authorities to clarify outstanding issues and identify practical steps towards resolution.

It stressed that resolving the matter would strengthen public confidence in government, demonstrate responsiveness to citizens’ concerns, and promote trust between the administration and its members.

On the political implication, the Ecosystem said its members would continue to exercise their democratic rights responsibly and make electoral decisions based on their assessment of public office holders, adding that resolving the issue would renew the hope of millions of Nigerians and rekindle interest in President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The group reaffirmed its willingness to engage government through established channels and expressed confidence in the administration’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, appealing for urgent attention to bring clarity and a practical path to settling payments to eligible beneficiaries.
