Tinubu Says Nigeria’s Economy Has ‘Passed the Darkest Tunnel’, Now Stable

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday declared that Nigeria’s economy has “passed the darkest tunnel,” saying the country is now running a stable economy driven by his administration’s reforms.

The President stated this at the State House in Abuja while receiving a delegation of Aseyori Tinubu, a research group, under the leadership of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim.

According to him, the reforms instituted by his government have attracted global attention and commendation, with multinational companies now showing renewed interest in partnering and investing in Nigeria.

“I could say the economy of our nation has passed the darkest tunnel. The twists and turns of democracy are there. We will continue to push for improvement. The economic recovery is here, proudly. We are running a very stable economy right now,” he said.

President Tinubu attributed the renewed investor confidence to the collective efforts of Nigerians across various sectors working to ensure the success of the reform agenda.

He also highlighted progress in education and security. The President said the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, is “flourishing” following the approval of additional funding from monies recovered by the EFCC. He added that there have been no ASUU strikes under his administration.

“We have a production line going on well; we just need to stimulate the economy for growth. We can beat our chests with the bragging rights — no more ASUU strike. Today, our children are in school. The security is getting better, not getting worse,” he said.

On foreign policy, Tinubu commended Ambassador Ibrahim for his performance at the UN and urged him to work harder toward securing a permanent seat for Nigeria on the United Nations Security Council.

“Your capacity is exceedingly reliable, and your performance at the United Nations are very impressive. You have achieved a lot at the UN within a short period. I am very proud of that,” he told the envoy.

In his remarks, Ambassador Ibrahim praised the President’s leadership, saying the administration’s economic reforms had projected Nigeria in a new light and were attracting foreign investors across multiple sectors. He also credited the President for his support, which he said contributed to his achievements at the UN.

Vanguard reports that he assured the President of his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s bid for a seat on the UN Security Council.

The President urged the research group to continue producing findings that would strengthen Nigeria politically and economically.
