Ogun Police Bust Criminal Networks, Arrest 6 Suspects, Recover Firearms, Ammunition, Stolen Property

The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major successes in its ongoing crackdown on criminal activities across the state, arresting six suspects and recovering firearms, ammunition, stolen generators, and mobile phones in a series of intelligence-led operations.
The coordinated operations, carried out by the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, and officers of the Ibafo Division, led to the arrest of Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, popularly known as “Okiki,” Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo,” and Adeboye Ojesina.
Police authorities disclosed that the suspects are linked to various criminal activities, including illegal possession of firearms, theft, conspiracy, armed intimidation, and receiving stolen property.
Items recovered during the operations include a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, an expended cartridge, five generators, and nine Android mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
In one of the operations, VCRU operatives acting on intelligence arrested Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki,” on May 30, 2026, for his alleged involvement in a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding communities.
Investigations led officers to another suspect, Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone,” who was identified as a receiver of stolen goods. A search of his premises resulted in the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator, and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.

Further investigations also led to the arrest of Abayomi John, known as “Ibafo,” a motorcyclist accused of providing transportation and logistical support to members of the syndicate during criminal operations.
Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the network.
In a separate operation on June 12, 2026, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and accusations of threatening residents in Wasimi and neighbouring communities.
A search conducted by the operatives led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges, and one expended cartridge.
According to police, the suspect initially denied ownership of the weapons but later claimed he found the pistol in the area and fired a test round to confirm its functionality. He also alleged that the pump-action rifle had been handed to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being tracked by investigators.
The police said investigations are continuing to uncover other persons connected to the case.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Ibafo Division arrested Afisu Awesu on June 13, 2026, while he was allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component from a site in Igbeti Sote Village, Ibafo.
Police said the suspect’s accomplice fled the scene, while subsequent investigations revealed that the pair had previously stolen forklift tyres from the same location and sold them to Bala Aminu, a resident of Kara, Ibafo.
Detectives later arrested Aminu for allegedly receiving the stolen items.
The Command stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the thefts.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime across the state and warned criminal elements that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and prepared to bring offenders to justice.
All suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
