Sowore: ₦100K Not Enough For Decent Living, Backs ₦500K

on

‎Human rights activist and also the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) Omoyele Sowore, has declared his support for Nigerian workers’ demand for a living wage of ₦500,000 monthly, arguing that the current economic realities make lower wage proposals inadequate for decent living.

‎In a statement released via his official X handle, Sowore said Nigeria requires leaders with the courage and conscience to defend the rights and dignity of citizens, particularly workers struggling under rising living costs.

‎According to him, the country’s socio-economic challenges have reached a point where workers can no longer afford basic necessities on salaries as low as ₦100,000 per month. He maintained that every salary earner understands the severity of the economic hardship currently facing Nigerians.

‎”The nation’s consciousness needs a leader with a conscience, one who can awaken the people and ensure they never again go to sleep on their rights and dignity,” he said.

‎Sowore criticized what he described as widespread silence among those in positions of authority despite the growing hardship across the country. He argued that poverty, exploitation, and inequality should not be accepted as normal conditions of life.

‎The activist further emphasized that meaningful societal progress can only occur when citizens become fully aware of their circumstances and collectively demand justice, fairness, and improved living standards.
