Oborevwori Appoints Eghene-Ezefili as First Female Secretary of Delta SUBEB

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Eruvwu Juliet Eghene-Ezefili, JP, as the Functioning Secretary of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Asaba.

The appointment was conveyed in a letter dated May 6, 2026, signed by the Head of Service, Government House, Asaba, Dr. (Mrs.) M. I. Oseji.

The appointment took effect from April 30, 2026.

The letter stated, “I am pleased to convey the approval of His Excellency, the Governor, Rt. Honourable Elder Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori for your appointment as the Functioning Secretary to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) with effect from 30th April, 2026,”

A statement by press unit, Government House Asaba, said the appointment marks a historic milestone in the administration of the board, as Mrs. Eghene-Ezefili becomes the first female to be appointed Secretary of Delta SUBEB and also the first staff member of the board to rise through the ranks to occupy the position of Functioning Secretary.

A seasoned education administrator and public servant, Mrs. Eghene-Ezefili brings over three decades of experience in educational administration, institutional management, and public sector governance to her new role.

She began her professional career as an Educational Administrator and Science Teacher at Paragon Group of Schools, Benin City, between 1994 and 1995, before serving as Administrative Officer in charge of Exams and Records at the College of Education, Ekiadolor, Benin City, from 1995 to 1996. She later worked at St. Mary’s Medical Centre, Benin City, from 1996 to 2000.

In 2001, she joined the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, Asaba, as an Administrative Officer and steadily rose through the ranks. Since 2019, she has served as Director of Teacher Professional Development on Salary Grade Level 17 at SUBEB.

Academically, Mrs. Eghene-Ezefili holds a Bachelor of Science Education degree in Chemistry Education from Delta State University, Abraka; a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Chemistry (Colour Chemistry) from the University of Benin; as well as a Master of Arts degree in Education Leadership, Management and Change from Middlesex University, North London, United Kingdom.

She has also participated in several local and international professional development programmes, including the Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education (SMASE) programme organised by the National Teachers Institute, Kaduna; the Third Country Training Programme for African countries at SEAMEO RECSAM in Penang, Malaysia; and a science education training programme at Naruto University of Education, Japan.

In addition, she has undergone training in leadership, strategic management, curriculum implementation, teaching methodologies, and anti-corruption systems in education administration.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Mrs. Eghene-Ezefili is actively involved in humanitarian and civic engagements. She served as the 14th President of the Rotary Club of Asaba GRA, District 9141, during the 2022/2023 Rotary year, and has been named Assistant Governor Designate of Rotary International District 9141 for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.

Her contributions to education and community service have earned her several recognitions, including the Beacon of Excellence Award by Rotary International District 9141 in 2023, and multiple Awards of Excellence in 2024 for her role in promoting functional education, mathematics, and science education in Delta State.

Stakeholders have described the appointment as a testament to Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to merit, professionalism, and inclusiveness in governance, particularly within the education sector.

The appointment has continued to attract widespread congratulations from education stakeholders, colleagues, and associates, who described Mrs. Eruvwu Juliet Eghene-Ezefili as a trailblazer, servant-leader, and inspiration to women in public service.
