Police officers of ‘C’ Division Asaba, allegedly captured in a viral video collecting money from a motorist inside the station using a POS machine, are currently facing summary trial as directed by Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi.

The order followed a review of the video which has since gone viral on social media, a statement issued by the Delta State Police Public Relation Officer SP Bright Edafe, said.

Edafe said that the incident which occurred on 13th of January 2026, is not only embarrassing but also unprofessional and conduct unbecoming of police officers.

He disclosed that the police command has since condemned the act in totality as no citizen deserved to be treated in such a manner by the police.

The PPRO said that the officers act is inexcusable and unpardonable.

Edafe said that the CP aligned firmly with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which expressly prohibits extortion, and also the use of POS machines or any electronic payment platforms for transactions within Police formations.

The CP warned all officers that extortion and abuse of office will not be tolerated under his watch, adding that ofaaficers are expected to carry out their duties professionally and treat members of the public with respect.

He tasked officers and men to uphold the tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties with respect to fundamental human rights of all citizens in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), while noting that the actions taken against the erring officers will serve as a deterrent to others.

The CP thanked concerned members of the public for bringing the actions of these recalcitrant officers to the notice of the command and further encouraged members of the public to continue to report any case of police misconduct through the Complaint Response Unit on 09155570008 and 09011112311.
