The Chairman of the Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC), Olorogun Abraham Ogbodo, has announced Dr. Charles Apoki, an international conference speaker and advocate of good governance, as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series.

Olorogun Ogbodo, a veteran journalist and former Editor of The Guardian, disclosed this in a press release issued and signed by Shedrack Onitsha, Secretary of the Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council.

The statement explained that the choice of Dr. Apoki followed a rigorous search process, noting that the renowned speaker and resource person to corporate organisations, institutions and ministries aligns with the Board’s vision for the 2026 lecture.

According to the release, “The Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council (ALSBC), after a thorough search, is pleased to announce Dr. Charles Apoki, an international conference speaker and good governance advocate, as the keynote speaker for the 2026 Advocate Publication Annual Lecture Series.”

The release further revealed that Dr. Apoki will deliver a keynote address on the theme: “From Ballot to Patronage: Why Electoral Victory Fails to Deliver Good Governance in Nigeria.” His presentation will be followed by a panel discussion featuring experts from the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations who will further examine the issues raised in the paper. The lecture is scheduled to hold on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Wetland Hotel in Ughelli, Delta State.

The Advocate Lecture Series Board of Council noted that this year’s lecture will focus on the growing disconnect between electoral victory and effective governance in Nigeria. The discourse is expected to interrogate how elections often become mechanisms for transferring power from the electorate to political patrons rather than producing accountable leadership. It will also analyse the role of godfatherism, weak institutional oversight and the monetisation of politics in undermining democratic mandates, while proposing practical reforms capable of restoring public trust and aligning elections with service delivery and national development.
