The immediate past Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, has bagged the “Best Security Supportive Politician of the Year” award at the maiden edition of the RazorNews Inter-Agency Cooperation Award.

The award, which was held on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at the prestigious Shoragate Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos recognised political leaders whose contributions have significantly strengthened Nigeria’s security architecture.

Elumelu’s consistent support for inter-agency collaboration, intelligence sharing, and legislative backing aimed at bolstering national security efforts, was hinged as basis for the award.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh on behalf of the organizers presented the award to Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu who was represented at the event.

The event, themed “Inter-Agency Unity: The Power of Collective Action,” brought together key players from Nigeria’s defence, intelligence, policing, and emergency response sectors, as well as political institutions and the private security industry.

Organisers said the award seeks to celebrate individuals who work “behind the scenes” to empower security agencies in tackling the nation’s evolving threats.

Elumelu, who served as Minority Leader from 2019 to 2023, has been widely commended for his strategic engagements with security agencies and his advocacy for improved security funding, better welfare for operatives, and stronger policy frameworks to combat insurgency, banditry, illegal arms proliferation, and community-level insecurity.

During his tenure as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Elumelu championed several motions and legislative interventions that called attention to violent attacks in rural communities, youth restiveness, cybercrime, and the need for rapid Government response in high-risk zones.

His constituency projects also frequently incorporated safety-related components, including community-based surveillance initiatives and support for local vigilante structures operating under the guidance of formal agencies.

Over the years, Rt. Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has distinguished himself as a strong supporter of security agencies across his constituency.

He built residential quarters and a staff clinic for DSS operatives, renovated several DSS facilities, and supported the rehabilitation of police stations and provision of operational vehicles as well as the rehabilitation of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) command office, connecting it to the national grid and provided solar lights to enhance efficiency of the corps. He also installed hundreds of solar streetlights to boost night-time safety and enhance patrol visibility.

Through firm legislative advocacy on security issues and empowerment programmes that reduce youth vulnerability, Elumelu has strengthened both the operational capacity of security agencies and the overall safety of communities in his Constituency and beyond

According to RazorNews, Elumelu’s recognition stems from “his unwavering commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security agencies and promoting inter-agency harmony at both legislative and grassroots levels.” The award committee emphasised that political leadership is a crucial but often overlooked pillar in national security advancement.

The ceremony also honoured several institutions and individuals, including the Nigerian Army (Outstanding Defence Force of the Year), the Nigeria Customs Service (award for illicit arms and drug interception), and leading private security organisations recognized for operational excellence.

Organisers noted that the awards aim to shift national focus toward the importance of collaboration, unity, and shared responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Political observers say this recognition further cements Elumelu’s standing as a statesman whose influence extends beyond legislation into national cohesion and security advocacy.

His emergence as the Best Security Supportive Politician underscores the necessity for political actors to actively champion policies and partnerships that strengthen national stability.

As security remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing concerns, Elumelu’s award is expected to resonate with constituencies, stakeholders, and national leadership as an example of how political engagement can meaningfully contribute to safer communities.
