The Ugbajo Itsekiri United States of America (USA) Incorporated, has elected Dr. (Mrs.) Mejebi Toritseju Mayor (née Otubu), as first female president.

Announcing this in a statement on Warri, on Friday, the Itsekiri group disclosed that the election that saw the emergence of Mejebi Toritseju, was held during the association’s 27th Annual National Convention in New York, marking a significant milestone in the group’s nearly three-decade history.

Delegates and members from across the United States gathered for the convention, which serves as both a cultural convergence and a platform for strategic planning on community development, the statement said.

According to the statement, Dr. Mayor, in her acceptance speech, expressed appreciation for the trust reposed in her and emphasised a leadership approach rooted in transparency, inclusivity, and collaboration.

“This is a collective mandate. Together, we will build on the vision of our founding members and take Ugbajo Itsekiri USA to an enviable height,” she said.

The new executive team includes Weyinmi Okupa (Vice President), Oduore Ojo (Secretary), Charles Jemine Omagbemi (Publicity Secretary), Pastor Dr. Utieyin Edema-Eyen (Financial Secretary), Tinuke Amajuoritse Fadairo (Assistant Secretary), and Oritsemoyogbemi Bowen (Treasurer).

The leading Itsekiri diaspora organisation in North America is also committed to cultural preservation, promotion of the Itsekiri language, customs, and identity among younger generations born outside Nigeria.
