Delta: Isoko South, North Council’s Chairmen Ban Activities of Two Factional Executives of IDU Youth Wing

In a bid to forestall possible break down of law and order, the chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri and his counterpart in Isoko North LGA, Godwin Ogorugba, have banned all activities of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) Youth Wing.

BIGPEN NIGERIA (https://bigpenngr.com) reports the ban followed the creation of the two factional executives of the youth body, the council chairmen said in a joint statement signed by their Chief Press Secretaries, Michael Akpodhoma, and Lawson Ajakpovi, respectively.

According to the statement, “In light of the recent wave of activities from the Isoko Development Union (IDU) Youth Wing, where two different lists have been constituted as the interim government of the IDU Youth Wing.

“In order to avoid violence in the Isoko nation, which can tragically result in the loss of lives or properties, the chief security officers of the Isoko South and North local government areas, respectively, Hon. (Elder) Godwin Ogorugba and Hon. (Comrade) Warri Ovoke Friday, have taken decisive action to restore peace and order.

“All youth activities of the IDU-Youth wing are hereby banned until further notice. The youth presidents of both lists and their executives are suspended from acting on behalf of the Isoko Development Union youth wing. All government agencies, especially the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), should avoid having any dealings with any of them.

“All multinational companies (MNC) should avoid having any activities with any of the IDU-YOUTH wings’ bodies. These measures aim to prevent further violence and ensure public safety. We urge all stakeholders to cooperate and support our efforts to maintain peace in the Isoko nation.”, the statement warned.

Tension was said to have started brewing in the council areas after President of the umbrella body of the Isoko nation, Isoko Development Union (IDU), Prof Chris Akpotu, allegedly without consultation, unilaterally constituted the leadership of the youth wing of the union.

The development, it was gathered did not go down well with the former President of the IDU youth wing, Hycient Ede and other stakeholders who then went to constitute a factional leadership executive of the youth wing.

Meanwhile, Isoko leaders and stakeholders of the IDU have condemned in its entirety what they described as ‘hurried and unconstitutional constitution of IDU youth wing executive’ by the union President.

The stakeholders noted that it’s unacceptable the action of the IDU President General, without formal consultation to constitute executive of the youth wing leading to the creation of another factional executive which is not handled could cause a bloody crisis in the land.
