Isoko North Chair Reaffirms Commitment to Free Primary Six Enrollment Programme

Published

Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, Godwin Ogorugba, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to the free primary six enrollment programme across the local government, saying that pupils who missed out in previous years due to lack of information would be captured in this year’s enrollment exercise.

Ogorugba disclosed this while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Isoko North chapter, during a familiarisation visit to his office at the council’s secretariat, Ozoro.

According to the chairman, not everyone in Isoko North can benefit from empowerment programmes or function as contractors, but however stressed the need for policies and initiatives that will directly impact the everyday lives of people at the grassroots.

Recalled, his administration paid enrolment fees for all primary six pupils across the local government in 2025 and assured that the gesture would be sustained throughout his tenure.

“Everyone in Isoko North cannot be empowered or awarded contracts. That is why we must implement programmes that touch the common man directly, and this education initiative is one we take very seriously. I want to use this opportunity to warn against any form of absenteeism in the education sector and teachers who were employed but fails to report to work would no longer be tolerated.

“I want to sanitise the system. Things are no longer business as usual. While I do not intend to oppress anyone, I will always do what is right. Let me also caution strictly against the refusal of postings, officers posted to other towns must comply, as remaining in one’s hometown throughout service years would not be accepted.”, Ogorugba warned.

The council chairman appealed for unity in Isoko and also asked the teachers to continue to support his administration, noting that such support also translates to backing the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Earlier, the chairman of the Isoko North NUT, Uje Wilfred, commended the council chairman, Ogorugba for the warm reception and explained that the visit was aimed at familiarising the newly elected NUT executive with the chairman.

Present at the visit were the council vice chairman, Evelyn Aluta; Secretary to the council, Vote Umukoro; majority leader of the Isoko North Legislative Arm, Victor Oghounu; councillor representing Owhelogbo II, Efemena Sunday and among others.
